Teacher Training College of Foreign Languages in Tychy (Nauczycielskie Kolegium Języków Obcych w Tychach) is a state college established in 1990. The college enjoys the didactic guidance of the University of Silesia in Katowice and trains teachers of English and German. Education in the college continues for three years and finishes with a diploma dissertation. The graduates are entitled to take the licencjat exam at the University of Silesia. Once the graduates obtain the licencjat degree (equivalent of the Bachelor of Arts degree) they are legible to study on a number of two year Master of Arts Courses.
College background: In 1990 the Tychy TTC was the first institution offering higher education in Tychy, providing new possibilities for students and playing an important role in the local community – producing foreign language teachers, so needed in the newly reformed Polish schools. The College is now located at ul. Wojska Polskiego 8, which is a spacious, well equipped building. Up to 200 students can study there during the academic year enjoying, among other things, a modern language-lab, a multi-media lecture room, extensive specialist library, a language-teaching oriented computer lab and a gym. The College is an important feature of the local community – it organizes Tyski Konkurs Języka Angielskiego i Języka Niemieckiego (a foreign language competition) for high school students, and several other events associated with foreign language teaching/learning.
